With family origins from Mississippi, Tennessee, and Illinois, Qetsiy’ah Yisra’el Tijani is extremely committed to the success of students of all backgrounds and identities. With nearly 15 years experience in higher education and student affairs, she has spent her entire academic career here at UIC, earning a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership.  Directly and indirectly, Qetsiy’ah has been assisting with students’ success through advising, mentoring, tutoring, recruitment, retention, and other efforts.  She is part of multiple efforts both on and off UIC’s campus that are significantly increasing the number of underrepresented scholars earning degrees in many disciplines.  Now wife and mother, Qetsiy’ah is in the process of earning her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). She also enjoys photography, cooking, spending quality time with family and loved ones, traveling, and sports.
